Friends and ‘rellies’ and Champagne jellies make festive food a feast

Families across the country are determined to make their Christmas dinners winners and turn them into feasts this year by having rooms full of revellers and tables full of treats.

Research from Morrisons, out this week, reveals that almost three quarters (72%) won’t be cutting the budget this year, while a quarter (28%) of the nation are actually planning on spending more.

It reveals that key to creating a feast is the food.  Three quarters of us (76%) would spend extra budget sampling luxury items or swapping sherry for Champagne.  Extra guests are also an essential to making dinner a feast.  More than a quarter (28%) of the nation’s formula for a feast involves filling the front room with extra family and friends on Christmas Day.  Extra liqueurs, fresh seasonal produce and luxury crackers join them at the nation’s table.

To help the nation turn its regular Christmas dinners into Christmas feasts, Morrisons is re-launching its Christmas Collector Card this weekend, giving shoppers the chance to get £25 towards the cost of their Christmas shop.  To claim their voucher, all shoppers have to do is to spend £40 or more in one transaction each week for five out of six weeks between 9th November and 20th December 2009.  The voucher can be spent between 17th and 31st December 2009.

Last year hundreds of thousands of shoppers collected a £20 Collector Card voucher to put towards their Christmas shop.  This year Morrisons expects even more customers to get saving for a £25 early Christmas present.

Morrisons Group Marketing Director, Angus Maciver said:  “With the nation aiming to turn its usual Christmas dinners into feasts, they’ll need to stretch the shopping budget.  The £25 Collector Card voucher will help give a fresh Christmas to everyone, with even more fabulous seasonal produce, as well as a Christmas tipple and some treats for the extra guests they’ll be inviting over on Christmas Day.”
