Morrisons to help customers and colleagues handle less cash
Morrisons is to help customers and colleagues during the coronavirus outbreak by increasing contactless card payments from £30 to £45.
Since the outbreak started, Morrisons has been asking customers to pay, where possible, by card or smartphone to help reduce cash handling, limit the number of physical interactions taking place and help customers and colleagues from being affected.
While many customers have opted to pay this way some have been restricted from doing so due to the £30 limit. Today’s announcement will enable even more customers to pay via their contactless card.
By Friday 3rd April, all our store checkouts will accept the new £45 limit.
The move is the latest measure being introduced by Morrisons to help support colleagues and customers during the coronavirus outbreak and help keep them safe. It has already introduced protective screens around its checkouts, has signage in store to support social distancing and is issuing hand sanitiser to checkout operators at all stores.
David Potts, Chief Executive of, Morrisons said:
“We want to thank all our customers for using less cash as it is another step in helping to keep our customers and colleagues safe. We’re pleased to be able to help them further by increasing the limit on contactless cards.”
