Morrisons has today announced that it will trial the removal of single use 5p carrier bags from six of its stores.
Stores taking part in the trial are: Catcliffe (Rotherham), Leeds (Hunslet and Horsforth), Erskine, Carmarthen and Gibraltar.
- During the trial, which is expected to run into 2018, Morrisons will listen to customers’ views.
- Customers who don’t bring their own bags will still be able to buy 10p re-useable bags for life which are replaced free of charge if damaged or worn out.
- Morrisons has reduced the number of carrier bags by 83 per cent since the introduction of the 5p charge, resulting in less litter and fewer bags going to landfill.
