- 75th anniversary box to help people celebrate landmark Bank Holiday during lockdown -
From today, Morrisons customers will be able to order a celebratory afternoon tea box direct to their doorsteps to commemorate the 75th anniversary of VE Day this Bank Holiday Friday.
Priced at £15, the special box will include scones, cakes and champagne truffles from the Morrisons Best range as well as Rodda’s clotted cream, jam and ingredients to make sandwiches and tea for two.
Following the news that VE Day street parties had been cancelled, Morrisons designed the Afternoon Tea to help the nation celebrate the landmark anniversary at home. Customers can either order a box for themselves or send one to a loved one who may be self-isolating, vulnerable or elderly.
It will be delivered, contact-free, to homes across the country ahead of VE Day (Friday 8 May) and in time for the Nation’s Toast to the Heroes of WW2 at 3pm.
The VE Day Afternoon Tea will be available to buy on Morrisons Food Box website - morrisons.com/food-boxes/ - which is helping the supermarket reach vulnerable and self-isolating customers during the coronavirus pandemic. Customers who wish to place an order over the phone can also call 0345 611 6111 and select option four.
David Potts, Chief Executive of Morrisons, said: “We’re playing our part in feeding the nation and that includes being there for customers in times of commemoration and celebration. These boxes will allow those who would normally be getting together with friends and family to treat themselves to an afternoon tea at home.”
